HAP LAUNCH PARTY

Friday, November 13th the girls from Haute Apple Pie formally launched their blog at The Home Market. It was a fun filled night with tons of treats and inspiration on the modern musings of the new homemaker.

I fell in love with this blog from the minute I logged on - and to my surprise the girls were all from right here in Wauwatosa, WI. How fitting to launch their modern take on decorating and cooking at The Home Market. Here are pictures from the official launch party....

Be sure to check out the blog to get great ideas on everything from bridal showers, to recipes for your next holiday party, to tonight's dinner....

CLEAN & SIMPLE

I just wanted to share a picture of a project that I was working on last week... how great do these vintage chairs from Holland look all lined up with simple custom cushions! (that was made by our workroom) Simple design always makes the most impact.

SIMPLE HOME: CALM SPACES FOR COMFORTABLE LIVING

“Choose colours that are inspired by nature rather than fashionable colour charts.” This quote is from Simple Home: Calm Spaces for Comfortable Living, one of my favorite new products at the Home Market. Written by Mark and Sally Bailey, Simple Home emphasizes getting back to basics in our homes. The pieces photographed in the book mix old and new, creating a rustic yet modern design. Simple Home also stresses using “soft palette of light reflecting creamy whites” and a “light-filled atmosphere of clutter-free spaces,” to make a calm and relaxing atmosphere in the home. Along with Simple Home, new products such as storage containers & candles are arriving everyday at The Home Market to create a peaceful sanctuary in your home - to escape life’s busy events.

NEW LIGHTS

Linneas Lights Candles have arrived at the Home Market.  Created by Laura Cler in Indiana, the double wicked soy candles provide over 60 hours of illumination and provide fresh unique scents.  My favorite scent is Linden and has created an amazing fragrance throughout the store.   The recycled material packaging is printed with soy inks and hand stamped making it a one of a kind gift (and you will not have to worry about gift wrapping).  Stop down to check them out.

NEW YORK GIFT SHOW

In August, I traveled to the NYIGF which, as always, had many fabulous vendors and products.  Similar to New York City itself; there is so much to see at the show and I was inspired by the new natural trends for this upcoming season.  Many of the lines had an organic tone combined with classic design.  Below is an example of the natural feel that was common throughout the show.

I am also excited for the new additions from some of my favorite vendors. Below is a picture of the Juliska table, which mixed some of the new pewter stoneware with their classic dish and glass lines.

Outside of the NYGIF, I did find some time to enjoy some of New York’s delicious food.  We ate at Hundred Acres in SoHo and Del Posto, a Mario Batali restaurant in the Meatpacking district.

After the show, I spent a couple days visiting relatives in Connecticut.  I enjoyed the beautiful New
England countryside and exploring the local shops.  I made sure to visit one of my most favorite home shops, Privet House (which is crazy for a home store owner to go to another home store, but always interesting to see what other stores are doing).

The trip was exhausting, relaxing and overall very successful. This year’s NYIGF was one of the best shows I have attended to date and I am excited to show off my great new finds in the store!

THEY'RE BACK

Finally the Kobo Candle Coterie collection is back in the store!  Here is why I love these candles:

1.) They burn for like 80 - 85 hours per candle
2.) The packaging is amazing
3.) The scents are all wonderful and unique - my personal favorite is Portuguese Olive Blossom
If you have not tried them, you need to!

All SHADES OF BLUE AND WHITE

I know it has been awhile since my last post... I just wanted to post some new pictures of some great items that we have in the store.  I found this great old martin birdhouse that was from a farm in Texas and it inspired me to redo the front of the store.   I love the simplicity of all of the whites and icy blues mixed together, so fresh and clean - it is starting to remind me of summer!  There is tons more that I am bringing in... so keep checking back!

WEEKEND GETAWAY

This past weekend, yes the rainy, gray one we just had, I decided to go where I have never been before...  Door County.  Yes, born and raised in Wisconsin and I have never been to Door County.  I left Milwaukee in the morning giving myself plenty of time to explore and wonder around the Door County peninsula.  Taking the back roads north, I had so much fun exploring the many small towns of Eastern WI.  The first stop was Egg Harbor, I decided to have lunch at a place called John Henry's.  His bar motto is, "It is what it is," which I should definitely tell myself more often,  he told me if we didn't like his food he would finish it for me. (Definitely try the onion rings - they are great.)  Then I headed to a couple of great wineries, one at the intersection of A & E in Egg Harbor called Stone's Throw.  I would definitely recommend the Pinot Grigio and then Orchard County where I ended up buying nearly every fruit wine known to man.  I then made my way to Door County Bakery which I believe was in Ephraim.  Do not leave there with out getting getting or at least trying the Corsica loaf.  It is this unbelievable bread combined with olive oil, trust me try it.  They will ship anywhere.  I then headed to the inn that I was staying at called The Whistling Swan in Fish Creek.  It is owned by the same folks that own Hinterland two doors down from me.  I walked in and it was so charming.  It is a small inn with 7 rooms and an amazing restaurant.  I don't think I have ever slept so well.  The next morning I walked across the street to the White Gull Inn, established in 1896 for breakfast.  I am a historical buff so I am all over stuff like this.  After breakfast, I headed back to Milwaukee again stopping at many of the towns along the coast of Wisconsin.  I loved stopping at the all of the historical markers finding out about Wisconsin history.  I did not know that the ice cream sundae was initially concocted in Two Rivers, WI - go figure you learn something new everyday.
